It started with ice cream.
Erika Hostrop, Founder of Shooting Stars
My love for photography and film goes back farther than I can remember. But my career in social media really started with ice cream.
In 2023, while studying Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications at Pace University, I was a social media intern at Catch’N Ice Cream alongside TikTok creator Dylan Lemay and his 11 million followers.
That year completely changed the way I thought about content.
I learned how to turn everyday moments into videos people actually wanted to watch, how personality could build a community around a business, and how powerful social media could be when creativity and strategy worked together. Powerful enough to translate into sales.
Two videos I created passed 10 million views on Instagram, and I got to work on collaborations with brands including Google, Tabasco, and Wicked.
After college, I joined GroupM’s Mindshare, working in paid media on brands including PayPal and Venmo. It gave me the other side of marketing: strategy, analytics, performance, and understanding what happens after someone sees the content.
But I missed being close to the business itself.
Meeting the owner. Finding the one little thing nobody had thought to film yet, and watching it generate sales. Freelance social media work brought me back to that, and in 2024, Shooting Stars was born.
Since then, I’ve worked with more than 20 brands, created content seen by millions of people, and helped businesses use social media to drive real attention, community, customers, and sales.
Finding what makes a business shine, and watching it convert into sales.
